Dalayrac: L’amant Statue

Dalayrac’s one act opera L’amant Statue was premiered in 1785. The score and parts were published in the same year, and Armand Vanderhagen (1753–1822) made a version of some movements for wind sextet of 2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons.

The arrangement of the opening aria Oui de l’amour qui l’enflame is particularly beautiful and might be welcome as an encore in a programme with either the Mozart or Beethoven sextets. The two newly composed bars offer the possibility of a richer texture and greater sense of finality before the close.
